InSite 2007 Trip

The Their Past Your Future project team piloted the InSite CPD Programme for teachers and educators in 2007. Participants came from a variety of professional backgrounds including teachers, museum, library and archive educators, regional and national education agencies and organisations. We also ensured involvement from organisations representing all of the UK home countries, so that the CPD requirements of education professionals working in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales would all be considered in the shaping of the full programme.

The InSite Pilot Scheme was thoroughly reviewed using the Inspiring Learning For All framework as a basis for evaluation. Post-1945 European History is an area that is neglected both in formal and informal education, and the overall aim of the pilot was to begin to rectify this by increasing knowledge and understanding of this period of history amongst educators.  The pilot also aimed to see if the format, which follows closely the format of other immersive learning visits within Their Past Your Future, worked for adults, and to ascertain whether a mixture of professionals was a useful progression from traditional teacher-centred continued professional development courses.

Here’s what some of the group had to say about their experiences in piloting the programme, including a residential visit to Germany and the Czech Republic:

“The incident planner session was excellent, and the object handling session was thought-provoking. These sessions, alongside group discussion and introduction to ILFA, helped to prepare the team for the practical and theoretical elements of the trip.”
